§ 17-67. Definitions.

  • The following words and phrases, as used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, unless clearly indicated to the contrary:

    Average final compensation. The words "average final compensation" shall be construed to mean the average earnable compensation of a policeman during his last five years of service as a policeman, or if he has had less than five years of service, then the average earnable compensation of his entire period of service.

    Board or board of trustees. The term "board" or "board of trustees" shall mean the board of trustees established by section 17-68.

    Pension and retirement system. The term "pension and retirement system" or "system" means the Police Pension and Retirement System of the City of Broken Arrow.

    Policeman. The term "policeman" shall be defined to mean any duly appointed and sworn full-time officer of the regular police department of the city whose duties are to preserve the public peace, protect life and property, prevent crime, serve warrants, enforce all city ordinances and laws of this state and any political subdivision thereof, and who is authorized to bear arms in the execution of his duties; provided, however, that any person or employee of the regular police department of the city who was a member of the pension and retirement system on April 17, 1969, shall remain a member thereof subject to all conditions prescribed for membership in the system.
